1. Overview

Game for Friends is a media-rich quiz game. One person usually acts as the Host, and others join as Players from their phones or laptops.

Multiplayer

  • One host, up to many players or teams.
  • Shared game board on a big screen.
  • Great for living rooms, classrooms, or streams.

Single player

  • Solo play with the same packs and media.
  • Try new packs before hosting.
  • Practice your knowledge between game nights.

You can switch between modes from the main menu anytime — they share the same packs and rules, but the flow is slightly different.

2. Multiplayer mode

2.1 Quick start

  1. Host opens Game for Friends and clicks Create room.
  2. Select a question pack (free, purchased, or your own).
  3. Share the 6-letter room code (or invite link) with players.
  4. Players open the link or go to the site and enter the room code.
  5. When everyone is in, the host presses Start game.

2.2 Lobby & joining

  • Each player picks a nickname (or team name).
  • The host can remove or rename players before the game starts.
  • Late arrivals can still join if the host allows it.

2.3 Board & turns

  • The board shows categories in columns and point values in rows.
  • On their turn, a team chooses a category and value, e.g. “Movies for 300”.
  • The host opens the question — text or media appears on the shared screen.
  • Players answer verbally (or via your own rules), and the host decides if it’s correct.

2.4 Scoring in multiplayer

  • Correct answer: the team gains that question’s points.
  • Incorrect: by default, no penalty (0 points).
  • The host can adjust scores manually at any time (for bonus points, partial credit, etc.).

2.5 Final round (multiplayer)

  1. At the end of regular rounds, top teams with at least 100 points qualify.
  2. The host reveals N + 1 categories, where N is the number of finalists.
  3. Teams secretly choose a category and place a wager: minimum 100 or all-in (up to their current score).
  4. The final question appears; teams submit answers in writing on their devices.
  5. After time is up, the host reveals the correct answer and adjusts scores:
  • Correct: team gains their wager.
  • Incorrect: team loses their wager (or 0, if you use “no penalty” house rule).

House rules are allowed — just agree on them before the game (e.g. always subtract the wager for a wrong final answer, or allow small penalties in regular rounds).

3. Single player mode

Single player mode lets you play alone with the same packs and media. It’s perfect to learn a topic or test a pack before you host for friends.

3.1 Starting a solo game

  1. Choose Single player from the main menu.
  2. Select a pack (your own, free, or purchased).
  3. Pick the number of rounds (if the pack supports multiple rounds).
  4. Press Start — the board appears just like in multiplayer.

3.2 Answering questions

  • You pick categories and values yourself.
  • The question opens: text appears, and media (image/audio/video) plays if attached.
  • Think of your answer, then reveal the correct one with a button.
  • Mark yourself correct or wrong — the game adjusts your score.

3.3 Scoring in single player

  • By default, correct answers give you the full value of the question.
  • Wrong answers can either give 0 or subtract points — depending on your settings (if available).
  • You can use solo games to track your progress with a specific pack.

3.4 Final round in single player

  • If the pack includes a final round, you’ll be prompted to place a wager from your score.
  • Answer the final question, then reveal the solution and mark correct/incorrect.
  • Your final score is shown with your wager applied.

4. Packs & content

Game for Friends is built around question packs. Each pack is a self-contained game with categories, questions, answers, and optional media.

Pack structure

  • Several rounds (1–5), plus optional final round.
  • Each round has categories (usually 4–6).
  • Each category holds 5 questions with growing point values.

Types of packs

  • Free packs — available to everyone.
  • Store packs — curated themed packs.
  • Your packs — created or uploaded by you.

You can browse and manage packs from the Packs section. Some packs are updated over time with new questions or media.

5. Question types & media

Questions can include different kinds of content. The host controls playback and when to reveal the answer.

  • Text — classic question/answer.
  • Image — guess an object, person, place, or detail.
  • Audio — music intros, sound effects, voices.
  • Video — short clips from movies, sports, or events.

Supported formats depend on upload settings, but typically include images (JPG/PNG/WebP), audio (MP3/WAV/OGG), and video (MP4/MOV).

6. Rounds & scoring

Each round uses a fixed set of point values. Later rounds are worth more, so come-backs are always possible.

Round Values
1100, 200, 300, 400, 500
2200, 400, 600, 800, 1000
3300, 600, 900, 1200, 1500
4400, 800, 1200, 1600, 2000
5500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 2500
  • By default, wrong answers in regular rounds do not subtract points.
  • In the final round, wagers usually add or subtract from the team score.
  • Your group can agree on custom penalties and bonus rules before you start.

9. FAQ

Do all players need an account?
No. Only the host needs an account to create rooms and manage packs. Players can join with just a code or link.
Can we play remotely over voice chat?
Yes. Share your screen in any call app (Zoom, Discord, etc.), and let players join the room from their own devices.
Can I upload my own media?
Yes. When creating or editing a pack, you can attach images, audio, or video to questions and answers, within the upload limits.
Can we change scoring rules?
The default rules are simple and flexible, but you are free to agree on house rules: penalties for wrong answers, bonus points, or different final round wagers.
What happens if someone disconnects?
Players can usually reconnect with the same room code while the game is still running. The host can pause between questions if needed.
